Any reputable shop will quarantine new arrivals for a couple of weeks following they delivery. It is a good idea to check out that the dealer has quarantine tanks set aside for this purpose. If they do not, ask what their policy is regarding new fish, or consider shopping somewhere else.

Secondly, verify the conditions within the tanks. If they seem dirty and uncared for, or you see a couple of dead fish in the tank, consider going elsewhere as the chances are that the fish you purchase from them will not live long.

When you are happy with the shop, watch carefully the fish which are caught for you. You would like to have healthy specimens, and this you are able to normally see at a glance.
